There has been construction going on at my apartment complex, inside and outside the buildings since the new management took over in January of this year. Lately, the banging, sawing, heavy equipment moving has gotten on my last nerve.
So, yesterday I took a trip to my beloved Casey County KY to visit my friend Bobbett, whom I will be farming with when I move there at the end of September. We spent the day clearing out her no-longer-producing tomato plants and weeds from six cattle panels. Then moved the panels to the barn.
You wouldn't think it would take about four hours to do such a thing, but it did. There were still some good tomatoes on the vines, some ripe, some to make fried green tomatoes with. We took our first break for a drink after about two hours of work, and to cool off since it was in the upper 80s yesterday, though there was a nice breeze blowing.
Our second break, though, was the one I was looking forward to the most. We went back out and worked some more after our first break. Then, this is what was waiting for us during our second break before we ate lunch.
Bobbett and her parents have a nice swimming pool at their place, and we both jumped into the pool with our work clothes on. I had on shorts and a t-shirt, and Bobbett had on the same. It was delightful to say the least. We spent about thirty minutes in the pool, then went in to have some pasta salad for lunch. Then we were all rested up and satisfied with food, and went out to finish our task.
I left there about 5:00pm, having gotten there about noon. It takes almost two hours to get there from where I live. And today, I am sore all over from my finger tips to the tips of my toes, and what a wonderful workout it was. I think that the move to the cabin, and my future in farming with Bobbett is going to be a success. And we'll get more done outside as the weather cools, than we did yesterday.

Kathy,it's great that you will be able to follow your dream in making the move. Most folks are not allowed the luxury of doing that.Bills to pay, family to care for,property to tend to.You know the usual strings that bind us.Hope all goes well for you and Bobbett.I love having my hands in the soil, so I can feel of little of your delight in making this move. Thanks Teresa - it was a lot of fun though I was pretty tired on my drive home, but slept well last night.
Thanks sawn - I'm very fortunate. And now looking back I can see God's Hand in preparing me for this move. Little by little he let me experience different things that deal with farming, just whetting my appetite for when I would be able to make the move permanently. Praise be to Him.
Oh yes!, I would think it would take 4 hours.
My husband was just saying this morning that he would like some fried green maters today. I just thought of it.
We use the cattle panels all around here, too. Don't they come in handy?
The pool sounds great. Did you remember the ivory soap? lol..
I am thankful I live where and how we do back in the woods in our own little world. It is so peaceful.

Yes - those cattle panels are great. I never thought of using them in gardening, but they are just the right thing to use on anything climbing. You know, Pam, I've never had fried green tomatoes! I bet I'll have some after I move when tomato season comes again. And, darn it! No I didn't remember the Ivory soap, but I sure coulda used it after working up a good sweat, and getting dirty. LOL
Sounds like your new adventure is starting off with a bang!I believe you'll need to stock up on an item called "Tired Old Ass Soak" I think you're going to need it!
Ha! Julie - it probably wouldn't be so bad if I were still in my 20s, but I will be 47 in November of this year! LOL
I did find out from Mrs W that Mr W got a bathing tub for me for the cabin - I thought that was awful thoughtful of them. It's about 4 ft long, and can't remember the width, but just enough to sit down in and soak my tired ol' ass! huh?

Cool, Kathy - I was born on the 16th, and I have an older brother who was born on the 20th, and my older sister was born on the 18th. My Grandpa's birthday was in Nov, and there were/are 2 wedding anniversaries in Nov in my family. A busy month!
Larry (my lawn tractor) made his final run through the remains of my garden. I still have some collards but, that's it. I saw your comments on Pam's chicken/guinea post and knew it was you. Good to see another blogger. Small world.
You're moving to the country!! Congratulations! I can imagine that you are quite the combination of emotions right now...excited, overwhelmed, enthusiastic, exhausted..how to balance it all will be the trick! It will be fun reading about all the stories you have along the way...make sure you've got your trusty camera in your back pocket at ALL times! lol
